NAGPUR: In a horrific stray dog attack, a Std I girl was mauled at the gate of BRA Mundle School on South Ambazari Road on Saturday morning.
The six-year old kid suffered facial injuries and was rushed to a private hospital by her parents. The girl’s father, who had to come drop her, hit the dog with her school bag and managed to drive it away.
On June 11, Viraj Jaiwar (5) was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Katol. The dogs dragged the kid to an under-construction building and bit into him till help arrived.
According to parents who were at the school gate, the dog walked through the gate along with the girl and her father. A security guard tried to shoo it away when the dog attacked the girl, biting her face.
The sudden attack scared the parents and children, who demanded additional security at the gate. According to them, stray dogs are often seen at the spot as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has failed to act against them.
Chairman of Blind Relief Association (BRA), which runs the school, Makrand Pandharipande told TOI that he contacted former corporator Lakhan Yerawar and NMC’s officer Gajendra Mahalle.
“The NMC has assured to send a vehicle to catch the dogs. We have two gates and never has any dog enter the premises. We will lodge a complaint with NMC on Monday. The dog population has jumped in the area due to illegal eateries that feed left-overs to strays,” he said.
Mahalle told TOI that he had rushed the vehicle to catch strays on receiving information.
The parents told TOI that the NMC must “catch all strays”. “We will also request the school administration to deploy more guards at the gates,” they said.
High school principal Rupali Hingwe said they have over 100 CCTV cameras in the premises. “We have two gates for security purposes. We often advise parents to drop the children till the second gate. The sudden sudden attack by the dog caught everyone unawares,” she told TOI.
