Kolhapur: The deadline for junior college aspirants to register for the Standard XI Centralised Admission Process (CAP) initiated by the deputy director of education, Kolhapur, has been extended by one day till June 19.
The deadline ended on Saturday. The students can get admission into science or commerce (English medium) streams in 28 colleges from Kolhapur city only through the CAP. On the last day, 1,383 students registered for the process. The authorities found students and parents demanding an extension of the deadline. Colleges too maintained that they are getting requests to extend the deadline from students owing to various reasons. Hundreds of students are yet to register for the CAP. One reason is many CBSE and ICSE students are yet to get leaving certificates from their respective schools.
As many as 6,123 students filled up part one of the admission form. Part two involves uploading the marksheet, marks obtained in Standard X, and preferences for colleges. The total number of seats in 28 colleges is 7,480 and as on Sunday, 6,384 signed up for the CAP system. Authorities believe that at the end of the deadline, very few seats will remain vacant in these colleges, unlike the last few years when a large number of seats would remain vacant. This was mainly due to the pandemic, which made students opt for local colleges instead of enrolling in city-based colleges.
After the deadline to register ends, the merit list will be declared and colleges will be allocated. Two rounds of the admission process will be held as per the prospectus issued by the authorities. The merit list for the first round will be declared on June 23. Most of the colleges are planning to start Standard XI classes from the first week of July.
