Nagpur: The provisional merit list for Std XI Common Admission Process (CAP) will be declared on July 28, over 40 days after results of state board Std X (SSC) were declared. The long wait was due to the state government’s decision to wait for CBSE X results to be declared before starting CAP. CBSE results were declared on July 22, paving the way for CAP to move ahead.
CAP is mandatory for admission to junior colleges in the city and the process is completely online.
For now, students can continue to select their preferred colleges up to a maximum of 10 colleges in the online form. Students have to ensure that they click on the “lock” option once they fill the form. Only those students who ‘lock’ their forms will be considered for seat allotment. Seats will be allotted to students based on their preferences, subject to merit rankings and availability.
After the provisional merit list is declared, students will get a chance to appeal against any errors noticed by them. While they are very rare, these errors are usually related to name spelling or marks entered online. If students spot such errors, they can file a rectification request with relevant proof at the office of the deputy director of education.
Once the window for rectification closes, the merit list is finalized. In a notice issued on Monday, the education department has clarified that preparation of merit list will be a one-time activity, which means that the same list will continue regardless of how many admission rounds are held.
Post this, the education department’s software will allot colleges to students. At this point, students have the option of either confirming their admission or rejecting it. If they confirm the admission, then students have to mandatorily click on the ‘proceed for admission’ link online within the time frame of three days, as per current timetable, and submit the required documents.
While students can reject the allotment and chose to proceed to the next round, there is a catch. As per current rules, if students are allotted a college which was their ‘first preference’ then rejecting admission comes with a heavy price. Such students will be blocked from participation in the consequent regular round, and can join in only in the round after that.
All junior colleges have been directed to take fees in digital mode only to “prevent spread of coronovirus”.
