A record number of cases of syphilis, gonorrhoea and HIV have been diagnosed in Finland this year, the Uutissuomalainen newsgroup has reported.

Even by October of this year, infections have been reported at a higher rate than in the entirety of previous years.

The figures reported by Uutissuomalainen showed that there have been 208 reported infections of HIV this year, compared to a total 152 last year. By mid-October, 269 syphilis cases had been detected, marking an increase of 100 since last year.

The number of cases of gonorrhoea is also higher than last year, while chlamydia infections have remained stagnant.

Uutisuomalainen noted that the record high can be at least partially attributed to the fact that more young people may have sought out tests due to the monkeypox outbreak earlier in the year.
