Here are the top three stories today in Columbus:
According to the Columbus Police Department, a 14-year-old was fatally shot on Friday, May 19. The victim was dropped off at the Brown Avenue fire station, but investigators suspect the teen was shot in the 2400 block of Bell Street. The incident follows two other shootings in less than 24 hours, including an overnight shooting on Buena Vista Road and an afternoon shooting on Avery Street. (WRBL)From now until Jun. 4, the “Clicket or Ticket” campaign is in full swing, with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Motor Squad ticketing speeders and drivers who are not wearing a seat belt. Sergeant Manny Ellas said, “It’s not about a citation, or the ticket, it’s all about making sure that everyone understands and stays safe.” (WTVM 9)Chuck E Cheese, located on Macon Road in the Cross Country Plaza, has replaced the iconic animatronics with a video wall. The restaurant’s upgrades also include an interactive dance floor, a new carpet, new signage around the store, and 30 new games. (WTVM 9)

According to a new study by Innerbody, Columbus has one of the highest sexually transmitted diseases (STD) rates in the country. Columbus ranked 27 out of the 100 cities included in the survey, with more cases of STDs than many metropolitan areas including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Nashville. (Macon Telegraph)On Wednesday, May 24, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a “Refuse To Be A Victim” seminar to share strategies and help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime. The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Training Division, 2nd floor, on 2100 Comer Avenue. Click here for more information.
