PUNE: An assistant teacher working in a Pune zilla parishad primary school in Lonikand, some 30km from Pune, has been arrested on the charge of securing her DEd qualification by using her sister’s Std XII documents and later securing the job in June 2006 on her sister’s name. The accused teacher has passed Std XI.
“The woman has been using her sister’s name throughout her 16 years of service. She concealed her real identity and received her salary and all other government benefits,” senior inspector Gajanan Pawar of Lonikand police told TOI on Friday.
The police produced the woman before a magisterial court which ordered her custodial remand till April 10.
The zilla parishad received a complaint about the malpractice on September 12, 2022, the Lonikand police said.
After investigation, Kisan Bhujbal, ZP education department’s extension officer, lodged a complaint on Thursday accusing the woman of causing loss of Rs 40.62 lakh to the exchequer by way of salaries and dues during her 16 years of service till August 31, 2022.
Bhujbal’s complaint said the woman passed her Std XI from a school in Rajgurunagar but she did not seek admission to Std XII.
She got her sister’s name published in the official gazette of the state of Maharashtra after securing the job as her name and went by this name.
Her Aadhaar card shows her date of birth as July 5, 1975, but the service book record shows her date of birth as January 1, 1977.
She had also misused her sister’s caste certificate and secured the DEd qualification with her educational qualifications.
Her sister had not enrolled for such a course, the complaint stated.
“We received a written complaint against the woman following which an inquiry was conducted by our primary education officer. The inquiry report clearly established a criminal intent behind the woman securing the job with a fake identity. After due diligence, I directed the registration of a complaint,” ZP chief executive officer Ayush Prasad told TOI on Friday. She was suspended on February 16, 2023.
Prasad said they have sent notices to the woman for recovery of dues and have also filed a civil suit for recovery against her.
In case she fails to return the dues, they will attach her property on securing the court’s order, he added.
