The boy is believed to have lost control of the car due to poor visibility caused by heavy rains
MUMBAI: A class 10 student who had taken his father’s car for a spin in heavy rain on Saturday morning lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into two conservancy workers in Dahanu, killing them on the spot. The 16-year-old suffered minor bruises in the incident.
Dahanu police said the boy was alone in the Ford Aspire when the incident took place. He has told cops that his father and others members of his family were aware that he knew driving.
The teen reportedly lost control of the white-coloured car when it reached Parnaka on the Dahanu-Bordi state highway at around 8.30am and hit Bharat Raut (55) and Vankesh Zhop (38) of the Dahanu municipal council. The duo had taken shelter near a hotel as it was raining heavily. After crushing the two men, the car rammed into the hotel wall. Locals rushed the two to Cottage Hospital in Dahanu, where they were declared dead before admission.
The boy, also a resident of Dahanu, was handed over to police. The vehicle has been seized by cops.
According to locals, the workers were draining rainwater into a manhole when the showers intensified. As they took cover near the hotel, the teenager, who is believed to have lost control due to poor visibility, rammed his car into them. The boy has been booked under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, said PI Namdev Bandgar. He will be produced in court on Monday.
The vehicle is registered in the name of the teen’s father and he is also likely to be booked. The teenager has told police that he has been driving the car for several months now.
