Throwaway for obvious reasons. I am HIV positive and have told my dad this because he is also my dentist, and because it is nice to have a support person. Recently, he became upset with me and threatened to reveal my HIV status to my family members. Can he legally do this? Do I have any grounds to report him for malpractice if he does? My thought is that he is breaking doctor/patient confidentiality. Does it matter that we are related? If I can’t report him for malpractice, is there another form of legal recourse I could take? I may be blowing this out of proportion, but I want to know what my options are before I get to that stage.
