After launching India’s first test kit for Tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant Tuberculosis late last year, Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions has come out with three new rapid kits for the early detection of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and Syphilis.

These diseases are classified as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and pose a significant health challenge to the world, with their collective caseload expected to reach an estimated 1 million per day globally.

Of these tests, the HIV 1/2 Ab and HCV Ab rapid tests have been designed to detect antibodies specific to HIV-1 and HIV-2 and HCV, respectively. The Syphilis Antibody test detects antibodies (IgG, IgA, IgM) to Treponema Pallidum (TP), said Hasmukh Rawal, Mylab MD and co-founder.

These tests can detect antibodies associated with each disease in under 20 minutes.

Furthermore, these tests are easy to use, storable at room temperatures and can be deployed at the point of care in resource-limited settings — making them very convenient.

These kits can also be used at blood banks to effectively detect transfusion-transmissible infections amongst blood donors, hence limiting their transmission.

The test kits are expected to be available at hospitals and labs by the end of this month.
