A woman went viral for claiming that God gave her a sexually transmitted disease (STD) as a “blessing”. She said that after getting the STD she began to “make better choices” in life.

The 39-year-old Alexandra Harbushka hails from Las Vegas, Nevada. She was diagnosed with oral and genital herpes in 2011 after she contracted it from someone she was dating at the time. She struggled with drinking, poor finances, and binge eating when she got contracted the STD.

Harbushka said that being diagnosed with oral and genital herpes was “absolutely devastating, crushing and suffocating”. She spent two years in a “depressive state” but the negative experience led to her making positive changes when she turned 30.

Harbushka realised that she needed to make changes in her lifestyle. She said she became more health conscious and started looking out after her body to decrease the number of painful outbreaks around her genitals.

She said that when she did not eat nutritious food or sleep well, she would get genital outbreaks. Since she was binge eating when she got diagnosed, she had to “relearn how to eat”. Harbushka started doing yoga and looking after her body to lessen the outbreak of herpes.
