NAGPUR: The state government’s decision to keep the Std XI common admission process (CAP) on hold till CBSE/ICSE results are declared, has not gone down well with senior academics. State board junior colleges feel that the state should not work according to the central board’s schedule.
Ravindra Fadnavis, executive member of Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Sanstha Mahasangh, said, “CAP should be cancelled. We are already following up on this issue aggressively. As far as admission is concerned, why should we wait for another board to complete its formalities?”
TOI spoke to a few more academics, but they did not wish to be identified. One such junior college principal said, “Our students’ results were declared on June 17. Since then, we have been waiting for the actual admission process to start.”
The principal added, “All the registrations and submissions by students to verify their documents have been done. The delay is not fair to our students. And this information about CAP being put on hold came to us through TOI only, because local officials have not mentioned anything yet.”
TOI had mentioned in its report on Tuesday that CAP applies only for those junior colleges that are situated within city limits. “That’s the biggest joke. So this means that in Mankapur, a junior college is not allowed to admit students, but just a 10-minute drive away on the same Koradi Road, another college that’s technically outside city limits can do it,” said the principal.
The principal further said, “Isn’t that a loss for the city colleges. Students residing right between both these colleges will prefer to get admitted in the rural college.”
Fadnavis said the local education department has prepared a report on his complaint about unregulated sanctioning of extra sections for junior colleges. “The biggest rot in the junior college admission issue is that education department is sanctioning extra student strength to colleges, even though they have no seating facility,” Fadnavis added.
